As missileman said already the AC helps dehumidify the car. It was for sure quieter due to crunchy pulley bearings.

Can you drive without ac compressor belt. However you wont get very far without the belt that turns your alternator. And it is bothering me. If your belt is completely off you can drive without ac.

FTR I dont think a shorter belt for bypassing pulleys even exists and if you use an incorrect size belt it can fall off and cause way more trouble than its worth. I have the new belt but with 6 inches of snow on the ground i dont think im going to change it out today or tomorrow. If you have a short belt that bypasses the compressor you can drive without air conditioning.

You can buy an AC compressor bypass pulley at any auto parts store that way you can keep the stock serpentine belt. No reason to replace the condenser unless it has a leak or something. That way you can use the original belt routing diagram.

Since only difference I can see is the belt is bit longer for the AC one compared to non AC one per specs. Perfectly safe without the belt.
